DIASOL was conceived on October 25th 2002 in accordance with part III (LRQ chap.C – 38 art. 218) of the Quebec companies Act and operates as a non-profit-making organization. It is run by a five-member board of directors and the activities it provides are orchestrated by the art photographers Miki Gingras and Patrick Dionne, founders of DIASOL. Moreover a team of volunteers is involved at different levels in the projects the organization is working on.

MISSION

DIASOL’s mission is to make children and teenagers from disadvantaged areas aware of social, cultural and community life thanks to educational and artistic workshops. The organization fosters cultural exchanges between young people from Quebec and Latin America so as to stimulate thought about the social differences linked with the rules and structures belonging to the culture of each country.

GENERAL OBJECTIVES

• Provide creative educational projects based on the discovery and experimentation of artistic media.
  
  
• Provide young people confronted with poverty with creative activities aiming at developing mutual aid and team work as well as increasing confidence and self-esteem.
  
  
• Present teaching aids to workshop facilitators from different social, economic and cultural backgrounds.
  
  
• Ensure the promotion and development of social and cultural projects.
  
  
• Draw up official documents (publications, website) about the various projects.
