Conference workshops present the different photographic documents made by the children of Latin American countries within the Humanidad project. Through the discussions raised by the viewing of the audiovisual materials filmed at the time of the project and the children’s pictures and texts, they make young Quebecers think about life environment, culture and one’s involvement in family and community life.
GENERAL OBJECTIVES
Make young Quebecers aware of the realities of the South.
Open the minds of the young to international consciousness.
Think about culture and the values associated with it.
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
Identify cultural differences and similarities between the North and the South.
Tackle various social and cultural issues.
WHO IS IT FOR?
Young people of 12 years old and over are those who are aimed at by this activity. Workshops are provided in secondary schools, community and youth centers, colleges and universities of the province of Quebec.
ACTIVITIES
An audiovisual document reporting the activities of the Humanidad project is shown to the participants, parallel to an exhibition of the photographs and texts of the young people who took part in them. After this presentation the DIASOL workshop facilitators start a question and answer period so as to answer the young people’s queries and exchange views on the project and the reactions to it. A talk on a social issue connected with the document that has been presented follows this exchange. The young are encouraged to interrupt at any time during the presentation.
After the talk the young are asked to divide into subgroups to discuss the issue dealt with in the talk. The comments of each subgroup are then pooled in a final round table discussion.
